Uganda Day 2

It has been a long day and I don’t have the capacity to write much tonight. One of the profound moments of the day was spending time with one of the artists we are here to see (this is a different type of trip than we normally do) in Kampala and fulfilling their request to see “the city”. We took them to a Compassion project inside Kampala but since it was a last minute visit we were unable to meet any of the children at the project because they were in school. Normally this would not be the ideal visit for us but today we sat in a room with two mothers connected to the project who are both infected with HIV and they spoke of how Compassion is helping them in all facets of their life. The mothers made necklaces for us to show one of the ways the project has trained them to make some money to support their family. One mother turned and looked at us and said, “I was afraid to get tested because I just knew my life would be over. I tested positive for HIV but the project workers have loved me, prayed for me, and helped me treat the disease and now I know I am alive for a reason.” I just don’t get tired of seeing how the love of Jesus is manifested in real people’s lives all over the world and how someone who, by our superficial standards, has no reason to be joyful just exudes that all over you when you meet them.

Here is the neighborhood where the project is located. (I forgot my camera so I had to take this with my phone)

I don’t know what this sign is all about but I had to take a picture of it.

I am headed to bed but tomorrow will be full of good pictures.  We are taking a group of 15 to see a project tomorrow morning and then the event all the artists are here for happens tomorrow night with 20,000 plus college students here in Kampala.
